Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado

Rocky Mountain National Park was established in 1915. This is the cover of a 1925 brochure published by the Burlington Route (Railroad). The railroads were important promoters of the national parks in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Burlington Railroad provided service to many of the western national parks, including the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Motorized transportation within the national parks was authorized in 1916 and the general public began to travel to the parks in their own private vehicles. This change in the mode of transportation for the national parks was the beginning of the end to the railroads dominating passenger service to and from the national parks.
